RUTH, TORAH, and The TURTLE DOVE
What if we told you the Biblical person Ruth, the word Torah, and the Turtle dove are all intricately connected to Israel receiving the Torah on Mount Sinai, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the upper room on Mount Zion, the preparation of the Bride of Messiah (Kallah Mashiah), and the return of Yeshua? In both meaning and expression, this is the greatest love story of all time of the most unexpected people becoming the foundations and fulfillment of the purification of the Bride and the coming of the Bride Groom. Watch as the tapestry of Biblical prophecy is knit together miraculously by society’s most unlikely characters through faith and redemption both before and after the death and resurrection of Yeshua. Read until the end to see a major mystery unlocked as we combine both the Hebrew name Ruth and the word Torah culminating in the fulfillment of Scripture as we know, the greatest love story of all time.
When Ruth accompanied her mother in law to Bethlehem her position could not have been more desperate. She was a foreigner, a widow, and unable to bear children. Making her situation even worse, she wasn’t just any foreigner, but a Moabite at that meaning Israelites were forbidden to marry her according to (Deuteronomy 23:4). This meant that technically Namoi’s sons who were now dead had broken the law when they married Ruth and Orpah while living in the land of Moab. So to say she had few prospects is an understatement.
When Boaz set his mind to marrying Ruth however, he knew something the other Israelites had seemingly overlooked, a mystery he understood from personal experience from his mother, Rahab. Yes, Boaz’s mother was Rahab the prostitute from Jericho who had saved the two spies because of her faith in the God of Israel (Joshua 6:25, Hebrews 11:31, Matthew 1:5). Before Boaz could marry Ruth, there was one relative of his that was first in line to be able to redeem the land of Naomi, but it would also require him by law to marry Ruth as well. He refused due to not wanting to go against the above-stated law, and therefore against Adonai. This played perfectly into the Boaz’s hand who was next in line by blood to redeem Naomi’s land and therefore marry Ruth. He knew intimately that it was not by law that his mother Rahab had been accepted as part of Israel, but rather by faith in the God of Israel which was credited to her as righteousness. In the same way, Ruth was an eligible citizen of Israel by faith when she told Naomi in Ruth 1:16 “Where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people will be my people, and your God, my God.” Boaz in this way redeemed Ruth from the curse and took her as his beloved bride. This is a picture of the gentiles being grafted in (Romans 11:11-31), as well as a foreshadowing of Yeshua redeeming the world from the curse of sin and death, to the Jew first and then to the Gentile.
The miracle of Rahab and Ruth is further deepened when upon Boaz redeeming Ruth at the gate of Bethlehem, the elders in attendance released a profound prayer and prophecy that Ruth would be like Rachel and Leah, the two who built the household of Israel and that their house would be like the house of Perez whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring which the Lord will give you by this young woman” (Ruth 4:11-12).
It is true that like Rachel, Sarah and Rebecca before her were barren and unable to have children, and the same was true of Ruth, hence the reason she had no children with her former husband, Naomi’s son, and why it says in Ruth 4:13 “and Adonai enabled her to conceive”. It was by a miracle of Adonai that all of these women had children, as well as Ruth who gave birth to Obed, the Grandfather of King David. Clearly Ruth was not only like Rachel, but also like Tamar (Genesis 38), a foreign woman who was a widow of the sons of Judah, but was redeemed and gave birth to Perez, Judah’s son and heir (Genesis 38:27-30). All of the women mentioned gave birth to sons who were the direct lineage of Yeshua. Sarah the barren, Rebbeca the Barren, Rachel the Barren, Tamar the foreigner who was twice widowed and played the prostitute, Rahab the prostitute, and finally Ruth the widowed, barren foreigner cursed to never marry again. All of these women have one thing in common, it was by faith in Adonai that they all conceived and became matriarchs of Israel all the way until Mary’s miraculous conception of Yeshua. Just like everything started with Abraham by faith so it continued all the way down the line to Yeshua Who came to fulfill the “Law” and everyone after His death and resurrection.
THE TURTLE DOVE (תוֹר) and THE BRIDE of SHAVUOT (PENTECOST)
The same Hebrew letters used in Ruth (רות), when spelled backward is Tor (תוֹר) meaning Turtle Dove. With the addition of the Hey (ה) at the end it becomes Torah (תורה). We find the word Turtle dove in the most interesting place in the Bible, namely the Song of Solomon the poetic discourse of love between the Bride and Groom. It is in Song of Solomon 2:11-14 where we find the turtle dove which just so happens to take us on the current and familiar journey of Shavuot.
The flowers appear on the earth once again;
The time for singing has come,
And the voice of the turtle dove is heard in our land.
The fig tree has budded and ripens her figs,
And the vines are in blossom and give forth their fragrance.
Verses 11 and 12 give us the exact timing of the year when the flowers are in bloom (Spring), the Turtle Doves are heard (May-June), and the fig tree blooming and the vines blossoming marks the beginning of the harvest season (Shavuot). The next two verses give us the exact location of the Bride and Grooms meeting place.
Arise, my love, my fair one,
And come away [to climb the rocky steps of the hillside].’ ”
“O my dove, [here] in the clefts in the rock,
In the sheltered and secret place of the steep pathway,
Let me see your face,
Let me hear your voice;
For your voice is sweet,
And your face is lovely.”
We see that hey begin climbing a steep mountain, but the next verse gives it away completely speaking about the clefts in the rock and the secret place of a steep pathway. Where else do we see this happening where the face is hidden? None other than Mount Sinai where the Torah was given to Israel where Moses was hidden in the cleft of the rock, where YHWH covered Moses’ sight so as not to see His face when He walked by. Solomon is speaking here clearly about the first meeting, the birth of the relationship between Adonai and His Bride Israel where he gave them the Torah, but that was just the beginning. When Yeshua died and resurrected, His last command was to spread the Gospel from Jerusalem, to Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth, this time including the rest of the Bride, the gentiles. In fulfillment of Romans 11:25-26 once the fulness of the gentiles comes in, Israel will be saved, both the natural and the wild branch grafted into the olive tree with Yeshua as its root, the Word Alive, the Groom who will soon return for His bride.
RUTH (רות) and TORAH (תורה) =
At long last we see the connection of Ruth and Torah. Yeshua is the Word (Torah) and when we connect the two words in Hebrew spelling Ruth from left to right and connect it with Torah spelled from right to left this is what you get.
ת ו ר ה ר ו ת
Just like the foreshadowing of Ruth and Boaz as the Bride of Yeshua the Bridegroom who has redeemed the world from the curse of sin and death, we see how the combination of the two words Ruth and Torah (Yeshua the Living Word) come together to create the Menorah at the center of which is the light of the world Yeshua Ha’Masshiach. The Menorah was placed in the Temple of YHWH and was kept perpetually burning day and night, and as this Shavuot has just ended, it is essential that we be fully manifested as the sons of oil (Zechariah 4:14) to keep that fire burning day and night like flaming torches of the fire of the Holy Spirit from the ends of the earth back to Jerusalem. We are the Bride of Yeshua and as such it is our job to be sure there is always enough oil in our lamps so that we can run the race completely filled to overflow as one body, one Bride, both Jew, and gentile until the imminent return of Yeshua the King of glory. A new normal has come to the world and to the Body of Messiah, and now is the time for that global body to burn brighter and hotter than ever before in oneness and with great expectation of the supernatural becoming natural and the miraculous becoming normal. Now is the time when Adonai said in Joel 2:28 that He shall pour out His Spirit on all mankind, and Habakkuk 2:14 when the knowledge of the glory of Adonai will fill the earth as the waters cover the sea. Abba Father is refining us and purifying us like gold and silver in His fire so that we can offer up sacrifices of righteous worship to Him in Spirit and truth, in signs and wonders for His glory until the final trumpet blast when the Bride Groom is coming to take away His Bride. Adonai bless you and keep you mighty men and Women of Elohim! Let the fire fall!
